We are very happy to announce the availability of initial guidance to run IBM WebSphere Liberty and Open Liberty on Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO). This is the first release delivered through an ongoing collaboration between IBM and Microsoft around the WebSphere family of products and Azure.

Developed alongside IBM, the guidance utilizes the Open Liberty Operator and provides step-by-step instructions for running WebSphere Liberty or Open Liberty on an ARO cluster. The guidance is intended to make it as easy as possible to get started with production ready deployments utilizing best practices from both IBM and Microsoft. Evaluate the guidance for full production usage and reach out to collaborate on migration cases .

Run Oracle WebLogic Server on Azure Kubernetes Service

We are delighted to announce the initial release of solutions to run Oracle WebLogic Server (WLS) on the Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) developed with the WebLogic team as part of a broad-ranging partnership between Microsoft and Oracle. The partnership includes joint support for a range of Oracle software running on Azure, including Oracle WebLogic, Oracle Linux, and Oracle DB, as well as interoperability between Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Azure.

EclipseCon Community Day is on Monday, October 19 14:00 to 18:00 CET (the day before the start of the main EclipseCon conference). Community Day at EclipseCon has always been a great event for Eclipse working groups and project teams. This year both EclipseCon and Community Day is virtual and free. Space for Community Day is limited, so please register and save your spot soon.

We have a packed agenda centered on the Jakarta EE, MicroProfile and Cloud Native Java communities. If there is a set of very focused sessions you should attend on these topics, the agenda offers the one place this year to do so. The sessions are intended not only for learning, but also for the community to actively engage with some key leaders. Note, after you register for EclipseCon, you will need to reserve your spot for Community Day through the Swapcard platform (let me know if you run into any issues).

This effort includes guidance, tools, scripts, workshops, and talks to help migrate workloads to virtual machines, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and managed service (PaaS) offerings.

We are working with key industry partners such as Oracle, IBM, Payara, and the Eclipse Foundation to better support runtimes such as WebLogic, WebSphere Traditional, Open/WebSphere Liberty, JBoss EAP, WildFly, Payara, and GlassFish on Azure.

Azure Active Directory, OpenID Connect, Open Liberty, and Java

Long gone are the days when you had to create your own user account management, authentication, and authorization for your web delivered software. Instead, contemporary applications leverage these functions (Identity and Access Management, IAM for short) from an external provider. As a full featured Java application runtime, Open Liberty has great options for externally provided IAM. Open Liberty supports IAM mainstays such as social media login, SAML and OpenID Connect. In Bruce Tiffany’s blog post Securing Open Liberty apps and micro-services with MicroProfile JWT and Social Media login , you have a solid example on how to use the Open Liberty social media login feature to authenticate users using their existing social media credentials.
