Most major Java events wrap by June, CFPs go dark while we’re waiting for the results and a lot of us - if we decide to carry on with the work - use August to either catch up on backlog, or training ( and I mean mental exercise here, although I’m sure some of you hit the gym more often too 😉 ).

If you’re in the northeastern US or eastern Canada and are around next month with some extra time to spare, this may be a good excuse to join your local community to watch and learn from a technical session on a problem most of us have hit in production, delivered by Simon Ritter,
a Java Champion who’s spent years in the JVM internals.

The Java Story: A Film About All of Us

Every so often a story comes along that belongs to an entire community rather than any one company or person. The Java Story documentary by CultRepo is one of those. On July 17th at 7pm UTC, the official Java documentary premieres live on YouTube - if you’ve spent any significant part of your career working with Java (and I assume most Foojay readers have!), I really think you’d want to watch it!

Ask a Lille Dev

During the DevLille 2026 conference in Lille, I interviewed several Java developers and tech professionals with one simple goal: collecting authentic and spontaneous insights from the Java ecosystem. ☕🎤

The result became “Ask a Lille Dev”, a mini podcast made of short interviews recorded directly during the conference. Instead of long talks or polished marketing speeches, the idea was simple: ask practical questions to people working in tech every day.

Why is my Talk selected? . Developer Week is an established conference with different editions in several locations and online during the year. Though I’m on their advisory board, this is only the second time I’ve spoken at one of their events. Pro-tip: Avoid being on any board of a conference where you speak. It’s bad taste and casts doubt on whether you validated yourself.

Foojay Podcast #44: Quarkus Club

Once a month in this podcast, we talk about the history of a Java User Group and the people behind it.

The first meetup was more of a practice team building session. Here is a trip report of the second Dubai JUG meetup at the PWC office.

First day in Dubai

This was my second time in Dubai. I had visited most of the landmarks the first time, making this a more relaxing visit without fear of missing out (FOMO). The temperatures were a lot more pleasant, where in June during my first visit it was above 40 degrees Celcius, this time around it was a more pleasant 30 degrees. I arrived Wednesday night in the hotel. I had set an alarm to make sure I wouldn’t miss breakfast and woke up a bit jet lagged. It’s surprising what just two hours of time difference can do!
